Agra Fort is a historical fort in the city of Agra in India. It was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty till 1638. The Agra Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site, located about 2.5 km northwest of its more famous sister monument, the Taj Mahal. Alot of historical battles took place at this location, inlcluding the First Battle of Panipat in 1526, where Babur was victorious. But later on was recaptured by Humayun in 1555, but recaptured again in 1556 by a general named Hemu. By the time is was discovered by Akbar in 1558 it was in ruined condition and was rebuilt with red sandstone. Later on Shah Jahan, the man who had the Taj Mahal built, came along and the site took on its current state. At the end of Shah Jahan's life he was even deposed and restrained by his son in the fort.
